The Kindness of Strangers by Julie Newman [arc review]

Image
I have not read a mystery/thriller book since I was a teen (I won't tell you how along ago was that
🤣). The Kindness of Strangers was a nice change of pace!
The Blurb:  Deception abounds in Julie Newman's breath-taking new novel. Widow Helen is desperate for a perfect family life, and will do everything she can to get what she wants. A veteran of the Afghanistan conflict Martin is adrift and seemingly without hope - can he ever win back his estranged family? Pregnant teenager Charley is striking out on her own to create a new life for her unborn child, but her mother Lizzie has other ideas. When three seemingly disparate lives connect, the past and the present collide to reveal secrets, lies and how far people are willing to go to hide the truth. Following the gripping and controversial Beware the Cuckoo, Julie Newman's thrilling new novel lifts the lid on the dark past that haunts a seemingly happy household.
When I started reading this book I forgot for good part of it …

Blood Type by K.A. Linde- 5 stars [arc review]

Image
My first book by K.A. Linde and there is no way it will be the last. I am HOOKED! As a fan of adult supernatural I am always in search of great plots (you know... they can be a bit too cheesy far too often) but this did not disappoint. I was intrigued from the very beginning. Yah, its a vampire story, but it is different and it will grab you and suck you in the whole way through.
The Blurb:
A startling new vision of paranormal romance: When a human ventures into the world of vampires—a decadent milieu of blood-bonds and betrayal—she discovers that not all is what it seems.

For Reyna Carpenter, giving up her body isn’t a choice. It’s survival.
In a civilization laid waste by poverty and desperation, Reyna accepts a high-paying position with the wealthy and hungry vampire elite. Her new job is as the live-in blood escort for the intimidating, demanding, and devilishly handsome Beckham Anderson. He’s everything she expected from a vampire, except for one thing—he won’t feed off her.
Reyna soo…

Guest Author Q&A with Kylie Scott

Image
Hi Kylie! It is such a pleasure to have you here on my blog! I finished the Stage Dive series not long ago and fell in love with your writing. And the Dive Bar series is turning out just as amazing!
Thank you very much!
-When did you start writing? Was it a hobby at first or did you always wanted to be a writer?
I’ve always been fascinated with stories and carried around notebooks since I was little. About ten years ago I had the time on my hands to give writing a serious go. My first book was awful. So I went and took lessons, attended writing conferences, and worked with a mentor. Slowly, I got better.
-When you are not writing what genre do you enjoy reading? And do you have a ’go-to’ author?
My re-reads are “Sweet Dreams” by Kristen Ashley, “The Darkest Part of the Forest” by Holly Black, and “The Stand” by Stephen King. Mostly, I read romance, but I try to mix it up a bit to keep things fresh.
-What other books do you have coming out this year that we should keep an eye on?
“Chaser”…

Craved by the Dragon by Jessie Donovan - 3.75 Stars

Image
Craved by the Dragon is number 11 in the Stonefire series (and its spin-off, Lochguard, is on number 5 now), I have read all of them and I am a massive fan. Craved by the Dragon was no different, I loved it. But I must confess it was my least favorite so far. There was just too much going on. I love when the books have plenty of interaction with past characters and my heart sang with joy at all the moments Tristan and Evie graced the pages with their appearance, it was wonderful to see them again. Bram too. But there were way too many new characters and side stories, it took the focus away from Killian and Brenna. Without going back into the book or doing too much thinking I can come up with 3 new couples and 2 new side characters that were mentioned a few too many times. Sadly, all that side ‘action’ not just took the focus away but also made the story drag for me. I wanted more of the main characters and ended up getting annoyed every time it side-tracked. All that being said, I …

Chaser (Dive Bar #3) by Kylie Scott- 5 Stars [arc review]

Image
This was so SWEET. I was not expecting that on a book on immature and self-absorbed Eric! 🤣 And so this was slightly different than I was expecting...in a good way of-course.
I am very much in love with Kylie Scott's writing (as you all know by now). I love the sassy characters, the funny stories, the romance, the beautiful friendships...  Chaser was different in the sense that the humour was not as present as in the other books; and although all our beloved characters (including the Stage Dive members) make an appearance, it is mostly focused on Eric, there was a little less of the other bar members than usual (or that is how I felt anyway). That was not a bad thing at all though,  I have zero complaints. It was another masterpiece by Kylie Scott!
Here is the blurb for you guys: Given his well-earned bad boy reputation, Eric is having a tough time scoring. When single Jean moves to town, she seems heaven sent by the sex gods. Only problem is, she not only wants nothing to do wit…

Bad Boy Brody by Tijan - 5+ Stars [arc review]

Oh look that.. I don't think I've ever been the first one to write a review on GoodReads for a book :)

Prepare to be amazed dear friends!
Tijan delivered yet another masterpiece.

Everything about this book was pure perfection. From the first page to last I was captivated and mesmerized by it all: the story, the beautiful setting, the main characters' souls, the horses, the secondary characters... ALL OF IT was beautifully written.

The Blurb (GoodReads):
(Blurb subject to change)

The loss of his brother sends Brody Asher from Hollywood Golden Boy to Hollywood Bad Boy. When he might lose a blockbuster movie role because of his new reputation, he agrees to first do a small indie movie to clean up his image.
Arriving on location, he’s not ready for the family politics and mystery surrounding the movie script that was based on a real life murder. And he’s most definitely not ready to fall in love with the person that was the reason for the murder in the first place, or the fact t…

Hopeless by Coleen Hoover - 3 stars

Image
This is not the easiest of reviews to write, let's start with that! 🤦 I liked the book, I think...  I liked the story, I like how Coleen always creates really intense novels. And I loved the first two pages. The book starts with a punch and keeps you on your toes until almost the end. But... the characters all felt flat for me and there was something a little off with the romance...
Blurb: Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After…

Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young - 5+ Stars [arc review]

WOW! I thought this would be ok, I did not think this would be amazing. In the end, it was not just amazing, it was heartbreakingly beautiful, powerful, moving, soulful, action packed, exciting...
I could go on for quite sometime. As far as YA goes, this is definitely going to be on my favorites for this year. It was pure Viking  inspired magic with plenty of feels! I was captivated by this story from the first to last page and now that I am done with my kindle arc I cannot wait to re-read it in its physical format.
The Blurb: Raised to be a warrior, seventeen-year-old Eelyn fights alongside her Aska clansmen in an ancient rivalry against the Riki clan. Her life is brutal but simple: fight and survive. Until the day she sees the impossible on the battlefield—her brother, fighting with the enemy—the brother she watched die five years ago.

Faced with her brother's betrayal, she must survive the winter in the mountains with the Riki, in a village where every neighbor is an enemy, every …
