I saw this in Story and Somnomancy's blogand I thought it was epic. Not that I am ever critical...  (don't laugh...) PS- I am only using as option books that I have the physical copies for πŸ™‚⚔

1. A Least Favorite Book

Situation: Apparently global warming = suddenly frozen wasteland. Your only hope of survival for warmth is to burn a book. Which book will you not regret lighting?

Acofas that would for sure be my answer! But since I don't... Ever the Hunted? Acowar? I didn't hate these book but I will never read them again either... I considered Night Circus, I liked that book less than these two. But it has such a pretty cover! hehe

2. An Over-Hyped Book

Situation: You’re in a store when the zombie apocalypse hits. The military informs everyone that over-hyped books are the zombies’ only weakness. What book that everyone else says is amazing but you disliked so you start chucking at the zombies?

The Hate you Give. The rant on this book is long and I am not going to bore you al…

Smoke in the Sun by Renee Ahdieh- 3 stars

Image
Smoke in the Sun is the conclusion to Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh. Although I liked it, it was not -sadly- her best work.
Synopsis: After Okami is captured in the Jukai forest, Mariko has no choice—to rescue him, she must return to Inako and face the dangers that have been waiting for her in the Heian Castle. She tricks her brother, Kenshin, and betrothed, Raiden, into thinking she was being held by the Black Clan against her will, playing the part of the dutiful bride-to-be to infiltrate the emperor's ranks and uncover the truth behind the betrayal that almost left her dead.
With the wedding plans already underway, Mariko pretends to be consumed with her upcoming nuptials, all the while using her royal standing to peel back the layers of lies and deception surrounding the imperial court. But each secret she unfurls gives way to the next, ensnaring Mariko and Okami in a political scheme that threatens their honor, their love and very the safety of the empire.

Sandpiper Shore by Debbie Mason [arc review] - 3 stars

Image
This was cute. Not the kind of book that will evoke big emotions. It won't leave you in tears or get you laughing aloud, but it was a sweet pleasurable read.
Synopsis:
Jenna Bell loves her job as a wedding planner and loves a happy ever after even more. Until the day she meets with her newest client and discovers that the bride's fiancΓ© is the man she's had a crush on for years. But she knows the #1 work rule: Never fall in love with the groom.

Secret Service Agent Logan Gallagher arrives at Tie the Knot to make plans with his bride-to-be. But coming face to face with Jenna after all these years brings back feelings that he's fought long and hard to forget. Does his attraction to Jenna mean that he's about to make the biggest mistake of his life?

This is meant to be the 6th book in the Harmony Harbor series but you really can read it as a stand alone. The story has a Cinderella feel to it. Evil stepmother, troublesome step sisters, a father who died and left everyt…

Explicit by Ava Harrison- 3.8/5 Stars

Image
Such a fantastic read. It owned me from beginning to end.
Explicit was an emotional rollercoaster. It was hard to put this book down once I started it.
The two main characters were broken. Both imperfect. And yet, they were perfect for each other.
I can't say I liked the title and blurb...I don't think it represented the book well. I was expecting something completely different. I mean, I am thrilled with what I got, it just wasn't what I was expecting...
So... the story is about Pierce and Lindsey. Both imperfect characters full of flaws and hurt. Both try to bury their pain on alcohol and drugs. Lindsey had an accident and is clean. Trying to get her life back together and get over the physical limitations her accident left her with. She is still healing both inside and out, but she is slowly getting there. She is tough girl! Pierce is another story all together. He doesn't know anything beyond alcohol, sex and drugs. He doesn't have anyone to trust, to be himse…

Demos at the Doorstep by Rachael Bell-Irving - 4.5/5 Stars

Hello sunnies!
I just love discovering new authors. It is such a wonderful thing when a book meet all your expectations. Demons at the Doorstep was a wonderful young adult fantasy book and I am very happy that it landed on my doorstep!
Here is the blurb: ONE LATE OCTOBER NIGHT, THE CITIZENS of Toronto are startled to see strangely colored northern lights above their city. While most dismiss it as an odd phenomenon, Jessica Williams knows better. As a young witch living in the city, she is a part of a small handful of beings who know the truth. She sets out to discover the cause of the powerful magic, in hopes of stopping it. Making matters worse is the band of witch hunters constantly on her tail. Led by Connor Crowe and his brother Damien, the group is determined to purge all magic from reality. Jessica's world is thrown upside down when horrifically mutated demons begin to appear from the shadows. Now she faces her greatest challenge yet. She must destroy the nearly indestructib…

More than Words by Mia Sheridan- 5+ Stars [arc review]

Image
OMG!!!!!!! πŸ’“πŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ’› This is my very first read by Mia Sheridan and I am in LOVE. This was SO beautifully done! It was sweet, emotional, romantic, touching... ahhh *swoon* More than Words is exactly as the title says: it is more than words... you will all have to read it to understand its beauty!
Blurb:  The moment she met Callen Hayes, eleven-year-old Jessica Creswell knew he was a broken prince. Her prince. They became each other's refuge, a safe and magical place far from their troubled lives. Until the day Callen kissed her--Jessica's first real, dreamy kiss—and then disappeared from her life without a word.
Years later, everyone knows who Callen Hayes is. Famous composer. Infamous bad boy. What no one knows is that Callen's music is now locked deep inside, trapped behind his own inner demons. It's only when he withdraws to France to drink his way through the darkness that Callen stumbles into the one person who makes the music return. Jessica. His Jessie. And she st…

Remembrance by Heather Hildenbrand - 4/5 Stars

Happy Weekend Sunnies!  I just finished this beauty and I am about to finish another book. All in three late night's work! hehe I am on a roll :-)
I was given a copy of this book by the lovely author for review purposes and I am very happy to say that I really liked it. I found that Remembrance follows a very particular style. Do you like the Evermore series by Alyon Noel? Or Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick? Or even the Fallen series by Lauren Kate? To me, all those series even though they have very different plots have similar styles. They are full of fantasy, teen/collage romance, are a tad cheesy, are long (4 books or more) but are easy fast reads too, and well...are not for everyone. Those series tend to either be loved or hated by readers. I happen to love them, so obviously I liked this one too.
It follows the story of Sam, a 20 years old girl who after experiencing a life altering trauma that she cannot remember changed her drastically. Once care free and outgoing now she i…

Anti-Stepbrother by Tijan 4.5/5 Stars

Image
I think by now you all know how I feel by Tijan's books: they rock my world! There has not been one single book by her yet that I did not love (and I have read a lot of them!).
Anti-stepbrother was no different.  My favorite thing about the book was how the main characters friendship blossomed into something else as the story progressed, it made it all a lot more believable and relatable.
Another reviewer used this quote and I had to steal is 'cause it describes their relationship perfectly: LOVE IS FRIENDSHIP THAT HAS CAUGHT FIRE. ~Ann Landers
Anti-stepbrother is about Summer. She has had a crush on her stepbrother since forever. On her first night in college she finds him with another girl. Not just that, but the other girl has a boyfriend and he is asking for her. In other words, her stepbrother is a scumbag.
While trying to escape the whole thing she bumps into Caden, he is in her brother's fraternity house and isn't all that pleasant to be around. But, a couple of …

Reflecting on BookCon 2018

Image
I am finally back home from BookCon. It was crazy and I am dead tired. Did I love it? YeS! But will I go again? That is the current million dollar question. Not everything about BookCon is rainbows and roses, so sadly, that is not an easy question to answer.

As you can see I met some amazing authors at BookCon. That was definitely one of the highlights of BookCon for me. All the authors were very friendly and kind towards their fans.
BookCon has an autographing area that is ticketed prior to the event. I got tickets to see Kendare Blake and Renee Ahdieh. I liked the ticket system because it meant you would for sure meet the author you were waiting in line for. The downside? You had to buy a book in order to get your own signed. That was ok for Reneeh Ahdieh as her latest book (Smoke in the Sun) was days from being released and she had copies for sale. That was not ok for Kendare Blake. The only books she had were Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne and since they were no longer …

Dirty Exes by Rachel Van Dyken- 5 Stars [arc review]

Image
Yes yes and yes! This was fantastic!
I read this book in one sitting while on the plane on my way to New York (BookCon, post on that coming soon).
It follows the story of Blaire, a PI focused on exposing the cheaters of the world. She is good at it too.  Her new assignment however is on an old friend and flame, the boy from her dreams that left her in order to pursuit his football career. To treat him like any other client proves difficult, she loved him once and is still attracted to him. Luckily for her his best friend is willing to help her out a little. He is funny and friendly and she is captivated by him from the start. As he is with her... One impossible job, two men she is attracted to, a cheater to be exposed...
I  loved this book!  I laughed and got goosebumps often.  Blaire was a hilarious character. Some of the situations she found herself in while doing her job where priceless. From the first to the last page she did not fail to make me smile.
Jessie, her ex, has a compl…

Guest Blogger: Lacey from Booklovers For Life with a review for Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

Image
Our Guest Blogger this week is Lacey! Her Favorite read in 2018 so far is Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren and she has kindly agreed to share her review of it here in Glimpses of my Books. But before we get to her review, here is a little Q&A with her and the many ways in which you can go follow her after we are done!
Hi Lacey!
Tell us a little bit about you before we go into bookish questions… Where are you from? Have you always lived there? What are your hobbies besides reading?
Hi Anne! Thank you for having me on Glimpses of my Books :) I’m born and raised in SoCal, have lived in LA almost my entire life and then moved to San Diego for school for a few years. I love it here! I’d live here forever if I could. As for hobbies besides reading… does collecting books count!? Lol. But I do love finding new restaurants to eat at. I’m a huge foodie.

- When/What got you into reading?
I got into reading around 5th/6th grade. I was over at my cousin’s house and she had one of the books…
